Religion Is A Roadblock

Allow me to be frank from the beginning. The Christians will cry blasphemy. They will disagree with the following statements almost one hundred percent. They may call me a heathen or a lost soul, but do not fret, for I am neither of these. The Agnostics may laugh and find my statements feeble and my beliefs uncommitted and fickle. That is just it though; as Bill Maher says in his documentary Religilous “I just don’t know.” Now everyone is wondering just what in the world I am about to mark into this paper. Well, I will tell you. I am neither Christian nor Agnostic, but rather a combination of both. This is not a tough concept to grasp if you are agnostic. For a Christian however it may be baffling. So, hear me out fellow Christians and I will explain to you the beliefs of which I speak.

Let me first begin by defining both beliefs. As you know Christianity is a religion. Christians believe in the Bible and the traditions and customs that have evolved over the history of the religion. Agnosticism is not a religion. It denies religion as anything viable. It is a belief system that believes that the essential nature of things is unknown and unknowable. It believes that human knowledge is limited to experience. It does not deny deity like atheism, but preaches the gospel of ‘I don’t know.’

So, my set of beliefs is like a combination of the two. I believe fully and strongly in the Bible. I believe that it is the word of God, and that it is the only way man can begin to wonder about the essential nature of things. Of course man has altered it over the years, but it still retains its goodness and validity. I also firmly believe that Jesus was the proclaimed Son of God who came to earth to pay for our sins by his own death on a cross. That is the belief I share with Christians.

What sets me apart from my fellow Christians though, is that I do not, and cannot partake in religion. Religion is nothing but rules man has put on faith. How can faith be regulated? Religion is comprised of rituals and practices that have little to do with ones actual faith or beliefs. It is nothing more than a way to flaunt ones faith. The problem is that Christianity puts too much stock in religion. So much so that it can be a roadblock. People will get so caught up in the whole religious mumbo-jumbo that is pumped into their heads from birth that they miss the entire point. Most of you are familiar with religion, be it of whatever belief system, but do you see the futility in it? Can you even tell what these roadblocks are?

The biggest and most outstanding roadblock is the organized church. People will get so caught up in their church as a piece of their salvation, a requirement, or an obligation that they lose sight of what the church was meant to be. The church itself forgets this. The church is me, it is you, and it was meant to be a body of believers that would occasionally gather together in fellowship to worship. No matter the number, no matter the location, or the preferred style. “And the church is his body; it is filled by Christ, who fills everything everywhere with his presence.” (Ephesians 1:23 NLT)

The church is not the place or the organization as it has come to be, it has become corrupt. It tends to develop around charismatic leaders, slick productions and programs designed to meet the needs of the members. The bible says that we were to do good works for others. The church now equates good works with teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies, working in the church nursery, attending church committee meetings, ushering, greeting, volunteering to do whatever it takes to keep the programs of the church running smoothly or giving money to keep the programs and church running. How does any of this have anything to do with someone’s beliefs and personal relationship with God? In the book So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore, An Unexpected Journey the authors, Wayne Jacobsen and Dave Coleman, make an excellent point: "This is no distant God who sent his Son with a list of rules or rituals to practice. His mission was to invite us into his love - into a relationship with his Father that he described as friendship. But what do we do? We are so quickly captured by a work-driven religious culture that thrives on guilt, conformity, and manipulation that it devours the very love that it seeks to sustain." (p.34) A person’s spirituality is now judged by their commitment to the church’s programs and their attendance. It is a country club mentality; the members are homogeneous and the club exists to meet its members' needs. Accountability is to the group now, not to God.

It is because of the church, my church in particular, and it’s many roadblocks that I have the set of beliefs that I have. I was brought up at the same church from about the age of 4 or 5 until just recently. It used to be a simple church. It was almost as if they actually got it, or it at least seems that way from what I remember. Now however, all I can think of when I think of my church is what it has become. I was never much involved in it at the beginning. I went to Sunday morning services with my family, but never Sunday school or youth group. That was until eighth grade. In eighth grade I changed schools and a lot of my old friends were in the youth group at my church. So I started to attend. For the next two years I was addicted to anything and everything my church was doing. I felt that I had to be everywhere and do everything that was happening. I was stuck at the religious roadblocks my church had created. At one point I even felt like I wanted to be a Youth Pastor. This all changed of course. Why? Conformity. I refused to conform and for that I was pretty much marked as a pagan. Everyone started to question my faith and my walk because I started to look edgy or because I stopped attending frivolous events. So when I quit my position as a Lughead (a small group leader for middle school students) sophomore year to run sound for the very same event everyone thought I had lost my religion. In fact yes, I was finally beginning to lose religion. It wasn’t until I learned that the Pastor of Students had told my brother that he committed treason against the most high for drinking and that people thought I was a terrible sinner for smoking that I lost all interest in the religious nonsense. What did that have to do with my faith? Smoking was not a great decision on my part, nor was my brother drinking under age, but it had nothing to do with faith.

Working at my church for the past 2-3 years has shown me a lot in the way of the church’s problems. The biggest and most obvious of which was the production end. When you walk into the main sanctuary on Sunday morning you can expect to be greeted by the scent of hazers and a slight feeling of moisture from them too. The stage bears large silver scaffolding like lighting racks. Candles sprawled out across the stage and even into the seating sometimes. There are tons of spotlights, gobos, LEDs, and other venue lighting. To each side of the stage rests high up on the wall a massive 16:9 screen with a full 1080p image projected on it. There are cameramen along the back wall and usually one or two right in front of the stage. The youth rooms are much the same only smaller and taken up a notch to add ‘coolness’ I suppose. As a Sound Tech I was not exactly going to complain about all the nice gear and everything I got to use, but there is something terribly wrong with that picture. I was told we were the first all HD church in America. Well that’s cool right? Sure, but that cost a lot of money. Especially when on top of the two massive projectors and screens, they throw in 1080p monitors sporadically placed throughout the sanctuary and lobby. Oh, and don’t even get me started on Room 101 which looks like a full fledged movie production and editing studio. Do you not see a problem with this? How is all of that going to better the community? How is it going to bring the members closer to God? That not even all. Besides the production end there were other roadblocks getting in the way.

The youth group especially seemed like it had lost its way. Part of the churches motto or whatever is “helping the next generation.” They have a huge youth group, but sad to say it centers on the cool events, socializing, and the youth pastor. I am freaked out when I see kids that do everything a youth pastor tells them without question. They follow this one person as though he has all the answers and knows what is best for everyone. They follow him as if he were Jesus himself. Well he is not God and he is certainly not perfect; no man is. It scares me to think that the majority of these students are getting caught up in the religious side of things; that they are not seeing the whole picture. They follow blindly the proclaimed leader and don’t think for themselves. They are road blocked.

Hopefully, fellow Christians you can now see the fallacy in religion. I am not saying that you are all wrong or stupid. The church has its merits. I am still a part of my church, one because I have a job there, but also because it is good to hear other opinions. My real church though is quite small; consisting of the very few people I can really talk to about my faith. I am not a ‘true agnostic’ yet I do hold religion in the same light as they do. Technically that is the main aspect of the agnostic beliefs. After all religion is an obvious and huge roadblock to our faith.

We can’t medicate man to perfection again

We can’t legislate peace in our hearts

We can’t educate sin from the soul; It’s been there from the start

But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits

Still we smile and deny that were cursed

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

Day 13 9/9/09 Oh Feelings...

Ok, so Wednesday was a boring day. A good day, but nothing worth blogging over really. Instead I'd like to blog today about feelings. Yes, thats right, good 'ole mushy feelings.

Why feeling you ask? Well because I'm having mixed feelings about college. I both love and hate it. I love the fact that its new and exciting (wow this is sounding way too cheesy) and that I have more freedom per say. Also I love two of my classes, Amer. Media & English, and the stoop is tremendously fun. Pointless entertainment, but fun none the less. I hate it because, well for 1 I don't have a job hence no money and I feel like an a-hole having to get money from my parents (sorry mother I know your reading and I half cussed, but just to reiterate on what I was saying before, I really feel bad about getting money from y'all). I also hate that its hard to find genuinely good people. Yes I have met a lot of people and were 'friends' and there cool. It's just hard to find people with the same values and beliefs as me. I really need to find a good church. Another thing I love is that I'm so close to Nashville. Though with my present money problem, it does me no good.

Anyway, that's enough feelings talk for now. I'm on my way to check my P.O. box, get a few things from the mini-mart on campus and then head to my favorite class. See, maybe today is going to get better! (fingers crossed)

So long interwebs!

Days 11 & 12 9/7 & 9/8 /09

Hello there interwebs. I apologize for my failure today. Not that I have a bunch of people reading this, I wish I did, but still I'm sorry guys. So I'm just going to post 2 days in this one post. Good thing monday was rather uneventful. To be honest most days are. Well at least they aren't blog worthy I guess, but never the less I am writing one everyday. I promise these will be more entertaining when I get my flip and it becomes a vlog. Anyway, on with the blog!

:Monday 9/7/09:

Oh Monday, what a pointless day. It was labor day, and no one was doing much of anything. A lot of people were getting back from being at home during the long weekend. So it didn't feel like we ruled the place anymore. Seriously guys, over the weekend it seemed like the only people on campus were us, The Stoop Krewe. So anyway, I did get by pacsun around 5 for the Saosin listening party thing and to return a shirt. I didn't stay the whole time though. I felt kind of bad about that because the manager had invited me and told me about it and I told her I would be there. I mean I was there, I just didn't stay. Oh well. I pretty much stayed at the stoop the rest of the day. I did do some reading, and at one point we all went up to the portal to watch Kung Pow, weird movie. So that's Monday for you.

:Tuesday 9/8/09:

That's today! well yesterday technically. I still haven't gone to bed yet. So, Dustin's stupid freaking alarm woke me up at 8AM. Grr. I went to the KUC to get some chickfila breakfast. I was apparently so tired that I incorrectly ordered. I wanted three mini's, but instead I ordered three hashbrowns for some reason. Out of it much? Oh, another thing about chickfila, I thought the one in Snellville was terrible, but this one, gah, its awful. Not that they don't get your order right, but I swear like everytime I'm there they have the worst attitude and it makes me not want to go back. I mean when you don't even pay any attention to the fact that you have a customer standing right in front of you trying to get your attention and order, its just plain rude.

So then I went to my first class. Which for some reason I thought was at 9:10, when it was clearly at 9:40. Even then though there was no one in the room and I just left. I went back to the dorm, started to read, and fell asleep until Dustin came back hyper as crap and kept on talking to me and yelling. Gah! And then when I went to my next class he took a nap. Wtf? Don't you hate that?

So yeah, I did other junk today, but thats really all that was very interesting. Ok, its not that interesting, I'm sorry. I'm trying here people.

Goodnight Internet.

Day 10 9/6/09 -Stoop Mobilize.

So this is probably the latest I have blogged ever, but no worries I still haven't missed a day.

Anyway, Sunday was fun. not much happened until later at night since no one was up till after 2. We managed to fit 15 people into Dustin and I's room. It was ridiculous. After watching a movie up there we mobilized to shell. On the way Jared had this bright idea:

We got back from shell and started playing with this girls volleyball. Long story short James ended up on the roof to retrieve it. I don't have that video, but I do have Jacob's failed attempt.

And then Jared's Failed attempt.

And I actually just found the first half of James' success.

Oh yeah, and here's the Portal:

Day 9 9/5/09 -1 Week Mark

So I've been at MTSU for a week now. RECAP! No, no recap, if you want a recap you can go read the lower posts. Savvy? Good. Now then, lets talk about Saturday.

Well, being as how I didn't arise from my slumber until 2, there really isn't much to say. (Are y'all getting tired of hearing me say that? I feel like I'm making excuses as to the reasons why my blogs are short. Whatever.) I finally ate some healthy food, kind of. I had a few pieces of pizza followed by some salad. Baby steps guys, baby steps. Moving on, I ran by the bank to check my account balance. I figured I had at least a hundred or so left from textbooks, but no, behold the ATM screen read $20.86, or something like that. I know it was 20 something. So my venture out was a waste. All I wanted were some bins and a rug for my dorm. Oh well. So I came back, chilled w/ the stoopers for the rest of the night, and that was that.

Goodbye Internets.

oh yeah, here is that clip of that guy I mentioned before.

Day 8 9/4/09 -Stoopin it for hours

Hello Internets

So apparently weekends here are pretty much dead. Everyone that doesn't live forever away goes home. It is way to quite on campus. To make it worse a lot of the better dining halls are closed for labor day weekend.

So yesterday, being that I am writing a day late as usual, was pretty chill. I bought my last three books and sat on the stoop for hours. Very uneventful, but very entertaining. We actually had a retired marine stop by and play some of his songs for like an hour. He was pretty good. Nothing to special, but it was good music. I'm going to put a short video clip I took of him at the end. Oh yeah, me and Dustin made a trip to the mall. He wanted shirts. We also got some cool lights at Spencer's though, and hopefully our room will be better than 'The Portal' eventually. Oh, and there was this cool girl working in pacsun that we met and we're going back monday for a 'listening party'. They are playing the new Saosin album a day before it's released, and Saosin might be there to play an acoustic song. Doubtful though.

So yeah, thats about it. I'm sorry if these blogs have been boring and uneventful of late, but they should pick up. Especially when I get a flip and they will become Vlogs. I'm currently watching one on ebay and its only at 50 right now, so hopefully I'll grab that one.

Farewell.

Day 7 9/3/09 -Dustin Kensrue is my English Teacher!

so apparently I'm just going to be writing these a day late. Especially when I'm out on the stoop till 2:30 in the morning.

So what did I do yesterday? Well I'm glad you asked interwebs, because to tell you the truth I did nothing that interesting. This is probably where everybody stops reading, but honestly it wasn't that bad. My English class was cool. As was my American Media class like always.

English was cool, well actually odd, because my teacher reminds me far too much of Dustin Kensrue. For those of you who don't know who he is, he is the front man for Thrice, and has his own solo project. He is pretty much one of my hero's. Anyway, it wasn't exactly in looks. Though he was built similar I guess, but rather just in his mannerisms and when he talked. It was strange. He does seem like a cool guy though, I think I'll like the class.

Oh so the funniest part of yesterday was when Jared, James, and myself went to go see a midnight showing of Gamer. Only to finally get to the theater, all the way out in Lebanon I might add, and find that it wasn't a 12 AM showing but a 12 PM showing. That was annoying, but yet quite humorous at the same time.

Oh yeah I also managed to spend about 400 bones on books. Not cool.

Ok, well fellow Internet-ers, I am going to get some food and drinks for my fridge now. So I will blog with y'all later!

9/2/09 Day 6 -Job Fail Again

A day late again. Oh well.

So yeah. Nothing really happened yesterday. I tried looking for a job again, but failed. I turned in a few applications from Monday, but still nothing. Worst part of the day was when I managed to lock myself out of my dorm for about 3 hours. That was great.

Yeah, that's about all I can think of that happened yesterday. So this is a short entry.

Day 5 9/1/09 -First Day Of Classes!

Hey guys, so y'all won't be reading this until tomorrow at some point. Actually you'll be reading it today. I don't know. Point is, I'm typing this up at 12:24AM and the internet is being really gay for me and won't work. Why? I have no clue, I want to know why too! It says I'm connected, but nothing. Argh!

So lets talk about my day, shall we?

Ok, it was the first day of classes for me, so, you guessed it, thats what I'm going to write about. Since nothing else happened at all. I was so bored between classes. It will be a good thing once I get work to do and have a job, but today was pretty boring out of class. For example, I got out of CSCI almost an hour early so it was like 10 AM. My next class wasn't until 2:40 PM! I watched 1 night of Neverender and still had 2 hours to kill.

So classes, well as I mentioned before my first class was CSCI, or Computer Orientation. Absolute torture. I suppose kids in Tennessee didn't have to take Computer Apps as a Freshman in High School, but I did, and this class it the exact same thing. I mean exact. Same curriculum and everything. Only difference is they run Vista. Personally I think thats a bad idea, but hey, not my decision.

My Second Class I have a feeling is going to be awesome! Its kind of like Crockett's Music Recording class at Grayson Tech, but a lot more in depth and no studio time. It's RIM 1020 American Media And Social Institutions. Which basically means it is an overview of the History of American Media. My professor seems like a really cool guy. Let's just say he opened class by playing a few Rancid songs. It's going to be great fun in there, I think.

So the third class I had was Music Appreciation. Which is actually Intro to Music. Sounds cool right? Not so much. I mean it will be easy because I already know a basic overview of most of the material and well not to be arrogant, but I believe I have a decent ability or talent with music. Anyway, my teacher, I can't call her a professor because she looks like she's just out of college, is a bit too open minded about music. Woah, Grayson! Thats not possible! Yes. Yes my friends it is. When you start saying that random noise is music, we have a problem. See there is a term for that. Its called brown noise. No musical qualities at all. No timbre. Nothing. Also, it feels like I'm back taking a required music class in middle school at Providence. There is too much silly stuff. Also it's a three hour class, but we do get two breaks in there, so no worries.

So, uh, yeah. Thats my blog for today, or yesterday I guess. I really need to figure out what's up with this Internet thing. I have seriously spent the last three hours trying to get on. I finally had to resort to using a PC in the lab downstairs to get my Twitter fix.

8/30/09 Day 4 -Job Fail

Ok, once again I'm writing the day after. I think I may do this regularly because it's just too hard to type up a blog when I'm ready to go sleep.

So not much really happened Monday. I got my P.O. Box finally. Now I can get blockbuster movies! At College, Yeah! Oh yeah, and Tickets! You know, I can just get mail now, in college! So, yeah, that was the most productive thing I did. Yes, I went job hunting, but that just depressed me. Every place I went in to were just like "We're not hiring." Grrrrrrrr. I'm going to go look again Wednesday though because I desperately need a job.

Ok, so yeah, thats really about it for Monday.

On a side note, I want to start Vlogging. I don't know how many people will watch though, and also I don't have a video camera. Yet another reason why I need a job. So anyway, let me know if you think I should vlog, or if you just prefer reading this blog. Comment here, or on my facebook here

Or you can @ reply me on twitter here ... its just @gbergmann, but my twitter looks cool! So check it out.

Alright, well that's all I have for you Internet.

Goodbye.

Day 3 8/30/09 - Exploring

First Sunday on campus. Felt weird not to be behind a sound board all morning, but i managed to cope. Besides, I'll have much nicer sound boards to run in a year or two. Can anyone say SSL?

So, I'm writing this a day late because I just wasn't feeling up to it last night. None the less I will write now. I can't miss a day or I'm a failure. Now then, lets see what I can remember.

Nothing much really happened. I was still on my post K.U. concert high so the morning was pretty much dominated by reminiscing. I finally made it to one of the 'Cafeterias' on campus. It was surprisingly good, though all I had was pizza. I also spent a little time wandering around the area and learning roads and all that. When I returned to the dorm Dustin, room mate, and I went out on girl patrol. Fail. However, we later met a guy down the hall and went on the same mission again. I learned one thing from these ventures. If I want to meet a girl, a nice girl, I can't go 'searching' with them. Why you ask? Well because I am pretty sure their not exactly looking for a relationship. They are still cool guys though. I mean if I'm going to meet someone, its just going to happen, I don't need to go perusing the options.

Anyway, thats probably the most personal I've gotten on here so far. Feels kind of weird. Moving on. That's really about it for yesterday. Though we did make a few other friends outside our hall, and joined the 'stoop crew'. Yeah, I don't know. It's just hanging out on the stoop in front of our hall. Then I watched Rocknrolla and some CTFxC and went to bed. Now I'm sitting here in Starbucks typing this.

Farewell Interwebs.

Day 2 8/29/09 - Keith Urban Concert!

Oh, where to begin. Lets start from the beginning shall we? Okay!

(To consolidate this entry I'm just going to briefly go over a few things)

So I slept like a baby last night. A poster fell on me in the middle of the night and i didn't even notice until I woke up and it was on top of me. Ha! Anyway, the morning was fairly uneventful. Finally met my room mate. Seems like a pretty cool guy as far as I can tell. Though at the moment his music is grating on my nerves. Just not in the mood for hip-hop right now. Anyway, I met my family, minus Jake of course, for breakfast/lunch at Mimi's Cafe. Fail. It was no good.

Moving on, I said goodbye to my parents, where my mother just about broke down into tears. It was endearing though. Then went and saw D. Sauls' room which is unfairly double in size to mine. But oh well, mine makes up for it with personality.

Now for the best part. Keith Urban Escape Together Tour at the Sommet Center in Nashville. Holy ...., it was utterly amazing!

  1. Nashville is an awesome city, and Broadway is like a street in my version of Heaven
  2. Sugarland opened. To say the least they played 3 songs that are about leaving home and living away from home. It was only then that I realized that I would actually miss my family and home. Yes, I randomly start to sob. It was just like all of a sudden and I was like wow, deep down I really love home.
  3. Keith Urban cheered me right up. The show was just that. An epic unbeatable show. Sweet and unexpected opening though with 'Hit The Ground Runnin'. His guitar work gave me chills, especially at the end of 'Till Summer Comes Around'. He added an epically amazing, building guitar solo. That just left me speechless and sent shivers running up my spine.
  4. I am honestly pretty much speechless about the whole thing, it was hard to figure out what to post here because there is just so much!
So there ya go. I tried to make that as short as possible. Success?

Either way here are some pics from the concert and my dorm room.

8/28/09 - Day 1

Hello Internet. Today I moved into my dorm. Exciting right? Well yes, and no. It was exciting in the way that its new and I'm going to be living here for the next 5 years, maybe more if I like the area and find a job here. The only downside to it was that move in day didn't go as well as I would like. I would trouble you with the details, but there aren't many of you. Hopefully I will have more readers further into the blog. I mean I'm going to be writing everyday for 4-5 years, and eventually making videos regularly.

Anyway, I got my room pretty much entirely put together; still have a few posters to put up and that kind of thing. The best part of moving in and setting up was that my room mate won't move in until tomorrow. So, I was able to set up the way I wanted to and organize the room in the way that best suited my living. Hence, my room looks awesome. I will upload some pictures of it later when I take them.

So that's my entry for today. I know its short, but I'm trying to keep it that way for a while. Tomorrow's entry may not be up until really late because I am going to the Keith Urban concert in Nashville. So bear with me. It will be up eventually and be quite interesting hopefully.

Summer Wrap Up

So summer is ending. In 1 day I will finally move into my dorm at Middle Tennessee State University. In celebration of this great event, I would like to take a look back on the summer. Primarily the movies and music I enjoyed all summer long.

The following are movies I saw in theaters between May and August. I have rated them on a scale from 1-10. A 1=Fail, 5=Fair, and 10=Fanfreakingtastic (Masterpiece). Only 1 movie I have seen has merited a 10, that being The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

X Men Origins: Wolverine - 7

Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian - 3.5

UP - 6...5.5 for the 3D being pointless

Land Of The Lost - 6.5

The Hangover - 8

The Taking Of Pelham 123 - 4

Year One - 7

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 5

Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs - 7

Public Enemies - 7.5

The Proposal - 7...7.5 the second time around

Drag Me To Hell - 3

State Of Play - 6

Star Trek - 8.5

My Sister's Keeper - 7

I Love You, Beth Cooper - 4

The Ugly Truth - 8.5

Funny People - 6

District 9 - 9

The Goods - 7

The Inglorious Bastards - 8.5

The Perfect Getaway - 6

The Time Traveler's Wife - 7

Post Grad - 5

Here are some of the CD's I purchased this summer, and ratings on the same scale as the movies.

Anjulie -Anjulie - 5

Brad Paisley -American Saturday Night - 5.5

Elvis Costello -Secret, Profane, and Sugarcane - 7

High Tide Blues (Live show at Seaside Amphitheater) - 8

Killswitch Engage -Killswitch Engage - 9

Placebo -Battle For The Sun - 8

Silversun Pickups -Swoon - 6.5

Thrice -Beggars - 9.5

AFI -Medicate Single - 5

So all in all the summer was pretty good. Lots of good times, plenty of good music and movies, and tons of free time. If I could change a few things about it, I would have had a job (I did try, but no one would hire me for just a summer), not worked at Grace, and gone to school sooner. Also, I probably would have done things a bit different with my relationships. Only a few though. A lot of people I lost touch with for good reasons and I'm really glad I got out of those when I did, but some things I did were just stupid, one thing I can think of specifically. I'm not going to go into that here right now though. Anyway, aside from these last 2-3 weeks of summer I've had a great time, and these last weeks I've just been bored because everyone else was already at school.

So that is my summer wrap up. I will post a lot more often once I get to school. Hopefully at least a short post every day, maybe more videos! Though I really need to get a Flip for that.

Mac down...Almost

Ok, so today was quite eventful, or tonight was anyway. I went to Sportsline Bar & Grill for open jam night, or whatever the hell its called and almost lost/destroyed my new macbook pro. How did I do this you ask? Well, I was leaving the bar and filming stuff for this blog. So naturally my hands are full so I put my macbook on top of my car to unlock it. Totally forgot I put it there because I was so focused on the stupid camera. I drove a few miles, realized I didnt have it and drove back. Searched the entire parking lot and surrounding streets, on foot mind you, I must have looked like a moron, but yeah, walked back to my car, almost in tears to find it lodged under one of the rack things on the top of my car. Yes, terrifying. It was very very terrifying. So here is the video I was taking while I forgot it. You can see it briefly resting on top of the car and me continuing to go on about life w/out it...damn.

on a lighter note, check out this video of my spazo dogs failing to spaz for me...its decently humorous though

Rolling A Big Fat One

So high school kids went back to school today, and like a loser I went back too. BUT! before you judge me, it was just to see Crockett, the best teacher I ever had, and to give him some coffee. Yes, it felt rather odd walking back into a high school, but hey, we've all got to show our favorite teachers our love and appreciation, right?

On another note, this is one of the worst things college student can see:

Why do I have to drive a suburban? Any money I make goes straight into the bottomless fuel pit.
Note: If your going to college get a honda, not a suburban.

Reviews:

Movies:

So last night I went to see the new movie "
Julie&Julia." How was it? Well it wasn't bad, but it was far too long and drawn out. It seemed like a way to tell Julia Child's story, but if you want to tell her story just tell it and don't throw in a set of characters that bores the viewer. Yes, it is based on a book written by Julie Powell, the character that I thought the movie could do without, but I honestly believe it would have been a better movie if it was just on Julia Child. The sections about her were far more interesting, entertaining, and even funny at times.
Production wise, the movie had nothing special. A typical more intelligent flick, but sometimes the transitions between stories were unclear and poorly done.

Music:

The latest two albums I purchased were: Anjulie -Anjulie and The Foundation -Zac Brown Band.
Preference? Of course. I prefer Zac Brown Band, maybe because I'm more of a country fan then a pop fan.

The Foundation is good home grown country music with an awesome opener, Toes, "I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand." I think it may also be one of the first country songs I've heard with a reference to marijuana: "Gonna lay in the hot sun and roll a big fat one." Of course this album also includes their hit singles: "Chicken Fried" and "Whatever It Is"

Anjulie is a unique style of pop, or so i thought from the opener 'Boom' but with a further, but brief, listen it seems to be your ordinary pop album.

Oh, by the way. If anyone has any ideas for ways to make my videos more entertaining, which they should get more so when I finally move in to MTSU, please feel free to comment them below or tell me via Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, or Email.

Intro/Test Post

Yes. You heard it, right from my very lips. I will try to update daily with some sort of post. not always a video, but I am going to try to do as many of those as I can. Anyway, sorry the audio on the video was hard to hear, its after 1 in the morning so I gotta be quiet-er. Also, not only will this blog be about my college life, but also my personal opinion on recent movies, music, and books; as well as updates on my musical projects I have going on.

Another thing about the videos, I am going to try to get some other form of camera so not every video will be behind my mac, and they should prove to be more interesting.

Currently...
Listening: Beggars -Thrice
Reading: How Starbucks Saved My Life -Michael Gates Gill
